Waterfalls To See During Your Summer Break In The Smokies
There are some beautiful waterfalls to see in the Smoky Mountains and Summer break is the perfect time to enjoy them! The wildflowers are in full bloom and if you’re quiet, you’ll be able to spot some of the wildlife emerging from their winter naps. You’ve been cooped up with work and school during the colder months and it’s time to hit the trails and see the beauty of creation.
1. Grotto Falls
One of our favorite waterfalls is Grotto Falls. You’ll find it at the end of a short 2.6 mile, roundtrip trail. It’s an easy hike amidst the old growth of the forest. This trail is perfect for families seeking a simple hike for the afternoon. It’s also perfect for those adventurers who want to continue on past the falls to reach the peak of Mt. La Conte.
2. Abrams Falls
Abrams Falls is at the top of the list of the most beloved Smoky Mountain Trails. With a gentle elevation and set in the heart of Cades Cove this trail leads to a rushing waterfall and a swimming hole for the warmer days. At only 5.2 miles long, it’s perfect for an afternoon hike and a picnic lunch.
3. Rainbow Falls
This trail is a bit tougher with a difficulty rating of moderate to hard. At 5.4 miles Rainbow Falls isn’t too long and comes with a stunning waterfall. There are rocks to climb on and a lush forest to hike through. Rainbow Falls is another perfect afternoon hike and one that you won’t want to miss!
