4 Outdoor Activities for Your Next Vacation at Our Mountain Cabins in Gatlinburg
Gatlinburg, TN is a paradise for nature lovers! Located minutes away from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Gatlinburg offers endless opportunities for outdoor adventures. To help you make the most of your vacation, Smoky Mountain Chalet Rentals has put together a few of our favorite ways to enjoy some fresh air when you stay at our mountain cabins in Gatlinburg:
1. Hike to a Waterfall
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is home to a number of scenic trails that lead to waterfalls. We love waterfall hikes because there is something to look forward to at the end of your journey! Best of all, many of the waterfall trails are fairly short, so you don’t have to be a great athlete to complete the hike. Here are some of the most popular hikes with waterfalls in the Smokies:
- Cataract Falls – ¾ mile round trip
- Laurel Falls – 2.6 miles round trip
- Grotto Falls – 2.6 miles round trip
- Baskins Creek Falls – 3 miles round trip
- Rainbow Falls – 5.4 miles round trip
Who says outdoor activities require working up a sweat? Kicking back in the hot tub on your cabin’s deck is one of the best ways to get some fresh air. Vacations are all about rest and relaxation, and we can’t think of anything more soothing than a soak in the tub. Many of our mountain cabins in Gatlinburg come with breathtaking views of the Smokies, so you can lean back and let the jets massage you as you take in the spectacular vistas. The mountains are gorgeous throughout the year, but they are particularly stunning in the fall months, when the leaves erupt with brilliant shades of orange, yellow, and red.
3. Go Horseback Riding
Gatlinburg is home to a number of riding stables where you can take guided trail rides through the mountains. A horseback ride is a great way see the area’s natural beauty from a whole new vantage point. Virtually all of the stables have horses who know the trails like the back of their hooves, so no prior riding experience is necessary. If you are a bit uneasy about riding a horse yourself, you can enjoy a guided horse-drawn carriage ride through the national park’s most visited valley with Cades Cove Riding Stables.
Many of our properties come with charcoal grills, so you can have a cookout right on your deck! Pick up some steaks, burgers, or hot dogs, and fire up the grill for a fun evening of dining alfresco. For some fresh locally grown vegetables and special treats, check out the Gatlinburg Farmers Market at 849 Glades Road on Saturday mornings from August through mid-September.
